A private journal app should explain where your words go, who can process them, and what happens when you delete them. Seauton is an AI journaling app for writing or speaking your thoughts and exploring them through guided reflection. It uses cloud storage and external processing providers, so understanding those choices is part of deciding whether it fits you.
Your entries are protected during transmission and encrypted at rest by our hosting provider. Seauton does not use end-to-end encryption. Its backend and processing providers can access content to deliver the app’s features.
Seauton’s Journal Privacy at a Glance
- Storage: Supabase stores journal text, account data and saved analyses.
- AI processing: Anthropic processes entry text when you save it and when you use additional reflection features.
- Voice transcription: AssemblyAI receives audio when you use voice recording. The resulting text can be saved as a journal entry.
- Encryption: HTTPS/TLS protects data in transit; Supabase provides encryption at rest. This is not end-to-end encryption.
- Sharing: Account access controls separate users’ journals. Entries you choose to share in Arena are visible to other signed-in users.
- Account deletion: Deleting your account removes your journal entries and saved insights from the active application database. Backups, technical records and provider-held copies have separate retention considerations.
What Makes a Journal App Private?
Privacy involves several different questions. Can another user open your journal? Can the company operating the app read stored entries? Does a voice or AI feature send content to another provider? How long do copies remain after deletion?
An app may protect access between accounts while still processing entries on its servers. Encryption during storage does not, by itself, prevent the service operating that storage from reading the content. A useful privacy explanation tells you which protections apply and where their limits are.
In Seauton, account access controls restrict access between users. However, authorized infrastructure administrators and server processes can technically access stored entries. Anthropic receives text for AI processing, and AssemblyAI receives audio for transcription. Seauton is therefore a cloud-based reflection tool, rather than a journal readable only on your device.
Encryption in Transit, at Rest and End-to-End
Encryption in transit
HTTPS/TLS protects data while it travels between your device and the services receiving it. It does not stop the receiving service from processing the content.
Encryption at rest
Encryption at rest protects stored data at the infrastructure level. Supabase’s security documentation states that customer data is encrypted at rest with AES-256. The infrastructure manages this protection; it is not a key held only by you.
End-to-end encryption
End-to-end encryption keeps content readable only at the authorized endpoints that hold the decryption keys. Seauton does not currently provide this model for journal entries. If your requirement is that the app operator cannot read your writing, Seauton’s current architecture does not meet that requirement.
What Happens When You Write or Speak in Seauton?
When you save a written entry
Your text is stored in Seauton’s database. Saving an entry also triggers automated processing through Anthropic, including titles, categorization and emotional analysis. AI processing is currently part of saving an entry; there is no journaling mode that switches it off.
Additional reflection features may use multiple previous entries to explore recurring themes. For example, understanding a repeated reaction requires looking beyond a single sentence or a single day. Read about these features on our AI journal page.
When you record a voice entry
Your audio is sent to AssemblyAI to turn speech into text. Seauton does not store the audio recording in its own database or file storage. The transcript becomes text you can review and save.
After retrieving a completed transcript, Seauton’s backend attempts to delete the transcription from AssemblyAI. If that request fails, the transcript can still be returned to you. This is not a guarantee of immediate removal of every audio or transcription artifact: the provider’s retention rules and deletion processing times also apply.
Our voice journaling guide explains the writing practice and why reviewing a transcription matters.
When you share an entry
Arena is an optional sharing feature. An entry you deliberately share there is visible to other signed-in users. Sharing an entry is different from keeping it in your personal journal.
AI Processing, Model Training and Retention Are Different
Processing an entry means using it to generate an answer or analysis. Model training means using data to develop or improve a model. Retention means keeping a copy for a period of time. A provider can process content without training on it and still retain it temporarily.
Anthropic’s commercial data policy says API inputs and outputs are not used for model training by default, with exceptions when customers choose to share data. This statement describes the provider’s default policy, not a promise of zero retention.
AssemblyAI’s documentation describes different training and retention conditions depending on the applicable agreement, region and opt-out settings. A deletion request alone does not establish a no-training guarantee. We do not make a blanket promise on this page that all processing providers never use any submitted data for training.
If a particular provider setting is essential to your decision, contact Seauton before sharing sensitive material. The Privacy Policy covers the service’s data practices in more detail.
What Happens When You Delete an Entry or Your Account?
Deleting an entry removes that entry from the active application database. It does not automatically rewrite previously generated summaries or other saved analyses that already contain information derived from it.
Deleting your account removes your journal entries and saved AI insights, including Moon Pulse insights, from the active application database. You can start account deletion in the app settings.
Account deletion does not instantly erase every backup, technical log, subscription record or copy held by an external provider. These categories can have separate retention periods. For questions about your data or a deletion request, email seauton.team@gmail.com.
How to Choose the Best AI Journal for Your Privacy Needs
The best AI journal for you depends on what you want it to do and what access you are comfortable allowing. Compare apps using specific questions:
- Who can decrypt the entries? Check whether encryption protects storage or also prevents the operator from reading the content.
- When does AI processing happen? It may run automatically on save or only when you request it. Seauton currently processes entries on save.
- Which providers receive text or audio? A voice feature can involve a different provider from the one generating reflections.
- What does deletion cover? Ask separately about original entries, saved analyses, recordings and backups.
- Are training and retention explained separately? “Not used for training” does not mean “never stored.”
- Does the app suit your writing practice? Consider voice input, helpful questions, ease of returning to entries and the access conditions for the features you want.
Seauton may suit you if you want voice or text journaling with cloud-based AI reflection and accept the processing described here. If keeping all content on your device or preventing provider access is your priority, look for an app whose documented architecture meets that requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Seauton an end-to-end encrypted journal?
No. Seauton uses HTTPS/TLS for transmission and Supabase’s encryption at rest. Its backend and processing providers can access content to provide the service. Those protections are different from end-to-end encryption.
Can other Seauton users read my journal?
Account access controls restrict access to personal journal entries. If you choose to share an entry in Arena, other signed-in users can read the shared content.
Can I use Seauton without AI processing?
Not currently. Saving an entry triggers AI processing, including categorization and emotional analysis. If you need a journal that does not send entries to an AI provider, Seauton’s current journaling workflow will not fit that requirement.
Does Seauton keep my voice recordings?
Seauton does not store audio recordings in its own database or file storage. AssemblyAI receives audio for transcription. The backend attempts to delete the completed transcription after retrieval; provider retention rules and deletion processing times also apply. Text you save remains in your journal until you delete it or your account.
Does product analytics record what I write?
Seauton masks journal content in PostHog session replays. Product analytics measures interactions such as screen views and feature use. Masking content is different from making every usage record anonymous. You can turn off product analytics in Settings → Data & Privacy. See the Privacy Policy for the analytics and attribution services used.
Is Seauton available on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Explore the journaling app for iPhone or the journaling app for Android to learn more. The free plan includes unlimited thoughts; access conditions for AI tools, guided features and recording can differ.
Choose What You Want to Put Into Words
You can begin with an ordinary moment: a decision, a conversation or something you want to understand. Include only the details you are comfortable having processed as described above.
